Brian is the author of The Savvy Guide to the 4 year WUE colleges. WUE (pronounced Woo-Wee)stands for Western Undergraduate Exchange. Students who are residents of Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, are eligible to request a reduced tuition rate of no more than 150% of resident tuition at participating public two- and four-year college programs outside of their home state.
However, can be confusing.WUE_colleges_cover_front Not all public schools in the 14 states are part of WUE. The WUE reduced tuition rate is not automatically awarded to all eligible candidates. Many institutions limit the number of new WUE awards each academic year. Some institutions award the reduced rate based on standardized test scores and GPA, while others give the reduced rate to everyone who is accepted.  Students can save thousands of dollars by attending a WUE school. With skyrocketing college costs, WUE is a great program and worth exploring.
